We Make House Calls!
During American Education Week, November 11 through 17, we highlight two of our educational outreach programs. The National Education Association sponsors American Education Week annually. This year it encourages parents, communities, and businesses to form partnerships with public schools.
While our historic home, the Old Patent Office Building, undergoes renovation, the Smithsonian American Art Museum sponsors House Calls, an initiative to bring American art into local classrooms. In addition, we have just launched virtual field trips that can be conducted online with any school across the nation!
If you are a teacher in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, take advantage of our free House Calls program! Invite a docent to come to your school to show reproductions from our stunning collection and talk with students about great artists. House Calls are subject to availability, so please plan in advance.
If you are teaching in another part of the country, consider taking your class on a virtual field trip to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. We offer free online sessions and videoconferences on a number of topics, which can be customized to suit your curricular goals and standards. To learn more, read our press release.
