American Art
A journal of the nation's visual heritage
Since its founding in 1987, American Art has been an indispensable resource for scholars, collectors, and museum-goers who want to enrich their understanding of the nation's art and culture. American Art encompasses all aspects of the country's visual heritage from colonial to contemporary times. Elegant color plates give the journal a distinctive appearance, and the articles are written in an engaging style.
Articles planned in the coming months include the following:
From Screen to Gallery: A package of commentaries on cinema, video, and installation practices with an introduction by John Hanhardt
Marsden Hartley, Eugenics, and Modernism, Randall Griffey
American Art Abroad: A package of commentaries on the teaching and study of American art overseas
Edward Hopper and the Ringing Bell, Alexander Nemerov
Portraits of "Four Indian Kings" in a Trans-atlantic Context, Kevin Mueller
Audrey Flack's Jewish Identity, Samantha Baskind
The "New Negro" from Germany, Peter Schneck
