Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art

The Smithsonian American Art Museum established the Clarice Smith Distinguished Lectures in American Art in 2004 to present new insights in American art from the perspectives of the finest artists, authors, critics, and scholars. This annual series is made possible by the generosity of Clarice Smith.

Collectors' Roundtable

Collectors' Roundtable opens the doors to the exciting but complex world of art collecting. These special sessions provide a forum for private collectors-and those just thinking about starting to collect-to learn from nationally acclaimed experts and to share their experiences with fellow collectors. Series participants may have the opportunity to view private collections and visit artist studios. Collectors' Roundtable is supported by the Thelma and Melvin Lenkin Endowment. 2012 speakers will be announced soon.

American Pictures

American Pictures offers a highly original approach to art and portraiture, pairing great works of art with leading figures of contemporary American culture. Each American Pictures event features an eminent writer, thinker, historian, or artist who speaks about a single, powerful image and explores its meaning. American Pictures is made possible through a partnership among the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and Washington College. Additional support comes from the Starr Foundation, the Hodson Trust, and other donors.
