| During the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, eight candles or oil-burning wicks are lighted in a special menora. A ninth candle called a Shamash ("servant") is taller and is used to light the other candles during the observance. Abrasha designed and constructed this menorah, which is indebted to his jeweler's sensibility in its precision of movable parts and fine detail. Nine cones for wicks, supported by nineteen vertical posts, all of which are held together by Y-shaped, circular hinges, compose the simple, clean design. |
