Frame for William C. Preston
George Peter Alexander Healy
Oil on canvas, 1842
Smithsonian American Art Museum
Transfer from the National Institute

Condition: Frame was in good structural condition, but the original surface was covered with a gray-green bronze pigmented paint.

Treatment: The bronze paint was safely removed using appropriate solvents. The frame was gilded with 23kt gold leaf and selectively burnished to match original patina as best as possible.
