Condition: A layer of paint covered the underlying gilded surface. The frame’s surface was damaged, and the original composition material had been previously removed.
Treatment: The oil-based paint was removed using appropriate solvents. Composition material of the correct design motif and scale was applied to the prepared surface, followed by layers of gesso and bole. The frame was gilded with 23kt gold leaf, burnished, sealed, and toned to match the existing surface. |
