Employment Opportunities
About 120 staff members work in twelve departments to carry out the mission of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The jobs are a mix of federal and Smithsonian trust-funded positions, permanent and temporary, full-time and part-time. Our vacancy announcements are posted on the Smithsonian Institution Web site as well as the Office of Personnel Management's Web site.
The Smithsonian site gives detailed information on how to apply for jobs. Keep in mind that your resume should contain enough information for us to evaluate your skills and experience. In addition, attach a supplemental page listing selective and quality ranking factors from the vacancy announcement. Relate your experience and education to each of those factors with detailed examples or descriptions.
For more information and for a list of current vacancies, please visit the Smithsonian Office of Human Resources at www.sihr.si.edu or the Office of Personnel Management at www.usajobs.opm.gov.

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. You can serve in public roles as a docent, greeter, or visitor information specialist. You can also assume behind-the-scenes roles in many areas, such as membership, development, and short-term special projects.
